The Challenge
The school run causes up to 51% of morning rush-hour traffic across the UK; and is a key contributor to air pollution and the climate crisis.
But the tools and data used to measure and manage this problem are not fit for purpose – 95% of schools lack up to date travel information, mainly because it’s so difficult to engage schools on transport.
The result? The school run continues to get ignored in transport planning - effectively discriminating against the transport needs of families, and scarce funding often gets allocated to the most affluent areas.

STEP Methodology
We’ve created our School Travel Evaluation Platform, leveraging our existing data set of 100,000+ journeys and using cutting-edge predictive modelling to analyse the school run across the entire country, without needing data from schools.

We are proud that STEP is the result of a project conducted in partnership with Essex County Council, and is part-funded by a grant from the Department for Transport that we won through an Innovate UK competition.
