In just weeks, STEP modelled ~210,000 journeys across 520+ schools, creating a county-wide baseline and enabling the council to identify where sustainable transport interventions (walking, cycling, public transport) could achieve the biggest impact. STEP transforms a previously data-starved, guesswork-driven process into one powered by evidence — helping councils allocate funding smartly, build fair investment strategies, and integrate school travel into wider transport and decarbonisation planning.
