Why HomeRun & STARS?
The average journey to school is less than one kilometre, that's around a 10-minute walk. However, many of these journeys are made by car leading to congestion and an unsafe and polluted environment for us all. By swapping car journeys for active travel, together STARS schools can make a real difference to our city and support the Mayor's vision for healthy streets.

HOW
You can get involved now....
STARS is open to all London schools and nurseries. To take part in the scheme, you first need to create a STARS Online account. This will put you in touch with your local borough officer who will support you throughout the accreditation process, help you create a School Travel Plan (STP) and select the most suitable activities for your school to address your travel issues and reach your active travel targets. Each activity you complete is a step closer to gaining STARS accreditation.

Car Sharing Promotion
Parents/staff can access a journey sharing module, that enables the easy and safe connection to other parents/staff that want to car share.
Other Smarter Driving Activity
Achieve minimal car journeys within reasonable walking distance to school.
Safe
Independent Travel
Digital Independent Travel feature provided by HomeRun that promotes and facilitates safe Independent Travel.
Travel Buddy Activity
Parents can access a Travel Buddy module, that enables the easy and safe connection to other parents who want to form travel buddy groups for their children.

Share
Parents can access a journey sharing module, that enables the easy and safe connection to other parents that want to form walking buses.
Cycling
Activity
Recognise schools that reach a high level of cycling adoption. Recommended level 5%.

Competition
HomeRun will run an annual photo competition of sustainable commutes via the HomeRun App.
Road Safety Activity
TFL can promote road safety campaigns directly to parents and staff via the HomeRun App.
Public Transport Activity
TFL can promote public transport campaigns directly to parents and staff.

Car-Free Day
TFL promote their car free day on the HomeRun feed through a campaign to encourage parents to leave their cars at Home.
Air Quality
Initiative
HomeRun will post the Kings College London Air alerts to parents on non-green days to raise awareness and enable risk mitigation measures.
